This page explains what happens to your data when you use this site. The short version: the tool itself doesn't collect or store anything you enter, but the site does use analytics and advertising services that involve cookies, described below.
When you paste a YouTube link into the thumbnail tool, it's processed entirely in your browser. The video ID is extracted from the link locally, using it to build a direct image URL on YouTube's own servers (img.youtube.com). The link you paste is never sent to, logged by, or stored on any server we control.
This site uses Google Analytics to understand overall traffic patterns, such as how many people visit and which pages are used. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to do this. It does not identify you personally, and the data is aggregated by Google before we see it. If you use the optional app features, analytics also records simple events such as whether the install button was shown or used, whether the app was installed, whether you used the download button (only the image size, never the video), which kind of link problem came up (for example “playlist link”, never the link itself), and whether you switched between light and dark mode. These events never include the links you paste.
This site displays ads served by Google AdSense, on the home page and the troubleshooting page only — not on this page, the disclaimer, the contact page, or error pages. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. It has no access to anything you paste into the tool. You can learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services on Google's partner-sites page, manage personalization in Google Ad Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info.
To remember your choices, the site keeps a few small items in your browser's local storage: your light or dark theme preference, the time you last hid the “Install app” button, how many times you have visited, and whether you have installed the app. These are not cookies, they stay on your device, and they are never sent to our server. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.
If you install the app or your browser supports it, the site also stores a copy of its own pages and files on your device so they load faster and so an offline message can be shown. This does not include the links you paste or the thumbnails you view. If you share a YouTube link to the installed app on Android, the link is read in your browser and is not passed on to our server.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time, though some site functionality (such as analytics) may not work as intended. If you're located in the EEA or UK, you may be shown a separate consent option controlling analytics and ad personalization before these services load.
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
